The Tannery Garden

June 30, 2009

We have had requests for recent photos of our garden.  It is absolutely beautiful at the moment after the gorgeous June weather and it was so great in the restaurant last weekend to let everyone know that everything on their plate was picked less than an hour ago!

Well Ross the Boss arrived in Dungarvan and my goodness, did he do the business.  Paul said, of all the courses that have taken place in the cookery school so far, this was the best!  The food was exceptional, the skill second to none, and the looks only surpassed by Paul’s own fair features!!!

Today is Tuesday and I think people are still talking about the warm chocolate mousse, three days later!  This can also be found on Chapter One’s menu and is there anyone left in Ireland who (a) doesnt know Chapter One and its superb hospitality and (b) hasn’t been there.

Cooking from the kitchen garden

June 5, 2009

Picture 007Saturday June 27th is a big day for us!!   The Tannery Garden has taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears and so on the 27th Paul will see the fruit of our labours with a course on cooking from the kitchen garden.  For all you aspiring allotment gardeners and cooks out there, this is the course for you.  Anyone can do it.  There is now way that I would have said this time last year that we would have a perfect artichoke just ripe for the picking in our own garden!  Now is the time to find out what to do with all the stuff you grow.  Book Cooking from the Kitchen Garden.

Ballymaloe Cookery School visits The Tannery Cookery School

"feels like I'm famous!!!!!!"

"feels like I'm famous!!!!!!"

Darina Allen has always been inspirational to us and we are very, very lucky to have Ballymaloe just a 45 minute drive away.  When we first thought about opening a cookery school (thought first mooted over bottle wine 2005 – purchased 2007 – opened 2009 – many, many bottles wine in between!!!) of course Ballymaloe is the mothership that we all aspire to.  Darina could not have been more encouraging or helpful to us and brought us up to Ballymaloe in Jan 2008 to see how its really done.  Around twice a year we entertain Ballymaloe’s 12 week certificate course and this year they came to visit on a beautiful June Thursday.    We love having this group, from every walk of life but all have one common denominator – they love food!

AV Abbott Vascular Team Building

Ready from the getgo!

Ready from the getgo!

We were delighted to be asked to do another team building event for AV Abbott Vascular (Clonmel).  Wed 3rd June was another amazing day and the team certainly saw the cookery school and the garden at its best.  Christine, Deirdre, Diarmuid, Maureen and Larry cooked up a storm and enjoyed the fruits of their labour later in the garden with a glass of wine.  Well done all! and thanks for coming to The Tannery Cookery School!!

Paul and Ian Noctor doing weekly recording

Paul does a weekly cooking spot on Fridays for Noctor til 7 on WlR.  Ususally a good short recipe, easily done at home.  Make sure to listen to Ian Noctor because its a great show, full of interesting stuff – and he does weekly competitions for Tannery Cookery School courses.  Must say though, Ian doesnt look to impressed with this week’s recipe.  Check out the podcast.

What a Day!

Inspecting broadbeans

Inspecting broadbeans

What a fab day.  25degrees, hard to believe the summer is finally here.  This photo was taken just five minutes ago of Paul inspecting his broadbeans.  Our garden is really coming into its own now and it is very exciting for us to see what is good each day.  We had the most delicious roasted baby garlic last night.  Tiny bulbs, roasted in olive oil with rosemary and potatoes.  Really sweet and mild.

Garden aside, this weather can only be good for business.  We were on the beach in Ardmore all day yesterday and it was packed.  Fantastic to see the Irish crowds coming back out to play after the washout last summer.  Really hoping that this will last!!  Wouldn’t be just brilliant to have weather like this for our barbeque course on 20th June.   Today Mike, the gardener is busy building a barbeque for that course. Book Summer Barbeque course
